Full Text

The subject has been broached in influential quarters in England and France, of forming a new kingdom out of the Danubian Principalities. It is thought that by erecting Wallachia and Moldavia into an independent State, and thus giving them a direct and powerful interest in opposing the extension of Russian power and influence in the direction of the Porte, a more effectual barrier will be interposed than they afford at present; and though Turkey would part with a portion of her authority, it will serve to protect more securely the remaining territory, which comprises, as it may be said, all her actual dominions, for these territories now only confess a nominal allegiance, which is commuted in money, and the country is not Turkish in respect of any national sentiment.

Event Details

The subject of forming a new kingdom out of the Danubian Principalities has been broached in influential quarters in England and France. It is thought that making Wallachia and Moldavia an independent State would give them a direct interest in opposing Russian extension, interposing a stronger barrier than currently, though Turkey would lose some authority, it would protect her core dominions, as these territories only nominally allege allegiance commuted to money and lack Turkish national sentiment.
