What is this article about?
This Kentucky editorial vehemently opposes Democrat William Goebel and his party's platform ahead of the November gubernatorial election, predicting Republican victory. No man or party can carry Kentucky on the platform the Democrats adopted at Louisville.
Mr. Bryan already sees his mistake in writing to Urey. Is sorry he did it and will do so no more.
The anti-Goebelites are making their presence known all over the State and declaring their independence.
If you are asked tell them Goebel did it. It was the greatest confidence game ever worked in politics.
MR. GOEBEL once called the Courier-Journal an old harlot. He seems choice in the company he keeps surely.
The Goebel ticket met a rebuff at Bowling Green and Winchester on the 24th. It will get a complete knock-out in November.
Hopkins County is not the only Democratic county in the State that is likely to give a majority in favor of the Republican ticket in November. There are others.
"SMALL favors thankfully received." Mr. Bryan has written a letter indorsing Goebel for Governor.
It must be remembered too, that Mr. Bryan got but one of Kentucky's electoral votes in 1896, and it was no fault of Goebel and others, including the Courier-Journal, that he got that one vote.
Read the Democratic platform written by Mr. Goebel and see if you like it. No honest voter, whether he be a Republican or Democrat can support such a platform. As is plainly shown therein, it was framed only in the interest of Mr. Goebel and his few friends.
Should Mr. Goebel be elected and the platform adhered to, woe be unto the people of this good old Commonwealth of Kentucky.
The Paducah Leader, a Sunday Democratic paper of that city, wonders who Elder Sweeney, of the Republican State ticket, will baptize first? Deboe, Bradley or Taylor, and thinks he should begin at the head of the ticket. We would say that Elder Sweeney does not baptize any but repentant persons, and as we hear of no one, save the Democrats, that are repentant we judge he will begin with the Democrats first and by the November election have them all cared for and under Republican officials.
Two weeks ago our postmaster saw fit to refuse to accept our Special Edition of The Bee for the mails. He wrote the postoffice department for instructions in the matter. So far, he says no notice
has been taken of his letter. The editor of the paper also wrote the department, complaining of the annoyance the refusal of the postmaster caused the patrons of the newspaper, and no notice has been taken of this complaint.
Can it be that the postoffice department has adopted Spanish methods, and sometime, when it suits its convenience, will answer the postmaster and the editor.
