SHEEP SHEARING AT POULTNEY.—In accordance with previous notice given, the Wool Growers assembled at East Poultney on Tuesday, May 8th. Hon. Barnes Frisbie was appointed President and Henry Clark, Secretary. A committee, consisting of Nelson Ransom, Henry A. Bourne and Joseph F. Morse of Poultney, Daniel Kimball of Clarendon, and Hiram Hotchkiss of Hampton, N. Y., was appointed to conduct the shearing and report the result, which was as follows:

Three years old buck, belonging to J. S. Benedict, of Castleton: weight of carcass shorn, 126 lbs.; weight of fleece, 21 3-4 lbs.; time of growth, 1 yr.; average of wool to carcass, 1 lb. to 5 69-87.

Two years old buck, belonging to Mark Lewis, of Poultney: weight of carcass shorn, 118 lbs.; weight of fleece, 21 3-4 lbs.; time of growth, 1 yr.; average of wool to carcass, 1 lb. to 5 37-87.

Four years old buck, belonging to Isaac H. Morgan, of Poultney: weight of carcass shorn, 120 1-2 lbs.; weight of fleece, 20 lbs. 9 1-2 oz.; time of growth, 1 yr.; average of wool to carcass, 1 lb. to 5 lbs. 13 23 oz.

Two years old ewe, belonging to H. B. McLure, of Middletown: weight of carcass shorn, 43 lbs. 3 oz.; weight of fleece, 10 lbs. 13 1-2 oz.; time of growth, 1 yr.; average of wool to carcass, 1 lb. to 4 158-347.

Messrs. G. B. Prindle and Luther Thrall had some grade sheep which were good specimens, as samples of their flocks. The committee did not take into consideration the condition of fleece or sheep. There were, also, some good sheep on exhibition, which would have been shorn, but for want of time and men to do it. In justice to Mr. Isaac H. Morgan's buck, four years old, it should be mentioned, that he had been sick for more than two months, and was in bad condition. His fleece, last year, weighed twenty-seven pounds, and the ewes shorn by Mr. Morgan at the exhibition were of his stock. The weighing was done by Mr. Azel Willard, of Poultney, a disinterested party, agent for Howe's Platform Scales.

The exhibition and its results exceeded the most sanguine expectations of those who were its originators.
