Filipino communities in the United
States, through promptings by
the various offices of the Philippine
Foreign Service, are reported
to be responding favorably to the
call for donations to the Jose Rizal
Centennial Fund. This Fund is administered by the Jose Rizal Centennial
Commission which has been
created by Executive Order to
plan and administer a proper and
fitting memorial to the Filipino patriot,
Dr. Jose Rizal, to coincide
with the 100th anniversary of his
birth on June 19, 1961.
The Filipino Community
of
Washington, D. C., with the counsel
and cooperation of the Philippine
Embassy, is reported to have
raised the largest amount - $1,500.00 so far.
The Filipino Inter-Community
Council in Honolulu, it is reported,
has set a goal of about $65,000.00.
The Filipino
Inter-Community
Council in the Pacific Northwest,
through its Rizal Centennial Committee,
has planned benefit affairs
to raise money for the Centennial
Commission, and the Philippine
Consulate in Seattle has raised
about $300.
