Full Text

Peter Hansen Williams, a farm laborer, who has been working at Lon Smith's, in Grattan, drove to town Wednesday in a cart and imbibed so freely of bug juice, as to make him noisy. Deputy Sheriff Knott cautioned him to be more quiet but not heeding his advice he was run in and later Squire Foote assessed him $5.00 and costs. He didn't have the cash but agreed with Knott to get it if he would let him go home. Peter however "bowled" up again and became worse than before and it took three or four men to pull him out of his cart and cage him in the cooler. This morning Mr. Knott landed him in the county jail at Ionia where he will have 20 days to reflect over the mysterious ways of this cruel world.
