Full Text

To the President and Board of Directors of the Addison County Agricultural Society:

Gents.—There is one subject which we think has been neglected by your Society: that is, in not offering a premium to the Stock Horse that can show five or ten of the best colts of any horse in the county. We see a good colt, but are not apt to find out in our minds what horse is the sire of it, and consequently are not prepared to decide, when we want the use of a horse, what horse to use.

Now to the owners of stock horses:—We propose that a purse be placed in the hands of the President and Directors of the Addison Co. Agricultural Society, who shall appoint a committee to award the premium to the owner of the horse which can show ten of the best colts by their dam's side, or ten colts of any age, at the Fair this fall. It will be a new feature at the fair, and if five or more will go in for it, it will probably bring out some fifty or more colts that will be worth looking at. We propose that the entrance fee be fixed at Ten Dollars, the entrys to be made by the 1st of August, and the fee deposited with the Treasurer of the Society by that time, after which the subscribers can decide upon the number of colts and their age.

Very respectfully,
Your ob't. Servants,
SMITH & ADAMS
