Des Moines, Iowa, June 24.—The Democratic State Convention met here to-day, and after the appointment of the usual committees the Convention adjourned till 2 o'clock.
AFTERNOON SESSION.
On reassembling the Committee on Credentials reported a full list of the delegates, and H. B. Fouke, of Dubuque was chosen permanent President. On accepting the office Mr. Fouke expressed his gratification at the unanimity of opinion existing in the convention, and said he thought the Committee on Resolutions would report a platform on which all could stand. He asked that every thing not essential for the sake of harmony be subordinated to the declaration of principles.
The Committee on Resolutions then reported a platform, of which the following resolutions are a part.
10. That we are in favor of a resumption of specie payments as soon as the same can be done without injury to the business interests of the country; in the meantime a sufficient supply of national currency for business purposes, and opposition to the present banking laws.
11. A tariff on imports that will produce the largest amount of revenue with the smallest amount of tax, so there may be no imposition of duties for the benefit of manufacturers at the expense of the agricultural interest.
12. We are in favor of the repeal of the present prohibitory liquor law and the enactment of a full framed, practical license law, strictly enforced, as the best guard and safest solution of the evils of intemperance.
13. That we are opposed to all legislation that restricts any citizen in his individual or social rights and privileges.
Here follows the Ohio arraignment of the Republican party and an invitation to all parties to co-operate for the expulsion of the Republican party from power.
The resolutions were unanimously adopted. After considerable debate on a motion that the organization be known as simply Democratic the whole matter of name was laid on the table.
Nominations were then made as follows: For Governor, Shepard Lefler, of Des Moines; Lieutenant-Governor, Capt. E. B. Woodward, of Lucas; Judge of Supreme Court, W. K. Knight, of Dubuque; Superintendent of Public Instruction, A. R. Wright, of Wright. These nominations were made unanimous, and after speeches by several delegates the Convention adjourned.
