Full Text
The troubles in America are become so great, particularly at the two ends of the United States, that, to escape anarchy and confusion, the most wealthy and peaceable of the inhabitants are gradually removing where they can find an asylum. In particular a number of (Quakers chiefly) persons of property and commercial consideration from Nantucket have removed, with their families, effects, and property, into the King's province of Nova-Scotia, where they represented their melancholy prospects in their own country -and petitioned the Governor for permission to settle. These people were at first, in August last, but few; but the succeeding months having been followed by many others, as they found their predecessors so well received by the English, they have come to Nova-Scotia with building materials, and begun to construct dwellings. Commodore Sawyer has therefore sent home for instructions, relative to those new settlers who, as they are the most wealthy and respectable, and a people by nature and practice quiet and peaceable, deserve the fostering hand of the British government.
