VERMONTER IN OFFICE 63 YEARS;
TOWNSFOLK WON'T LET HIM RETIRE
CUTTINGSVILLE, Vt., July 7.-
"The man who cannot retire," is what the Green Mountain folk call E. O. Aldrich of Cuttingsville whom fellow citizens have just elected to his sixty-third consecutive term in public office.

Cuttingsville, neighbor of Plymouth, ancestral home of President Coolidge, declines to allow Aldrich to quit public office. He would long ago have bowed himself out of the town's service in modest concession to younger minds, but the voters will not have it. He is 85 years old, but his energy and continually good health belie his age.

Elected lister when he was but 23, Aldrich has served his town in every capacity since then. He has been clerk, treasurer and collector for 5 terms--since 1873-- and has never been absent from his desk for a day except during terms as representative and senator in the state legislature.

He has never been ill and has never taken a drink of liquor nor smoked.

This champion of office holders explains his longevity in the public service:
"I've put time into it and have taken care of it. That's the reason I've held it."

E.O. ALDRICH

"He's the best man the town's ever had and can have the jobs as long as he lives, if he lives to be a hundred," a fellow townsman explains.

"Aldrich's books are kept as neat as a pin and, he's just as accommodating as ever. He's a glutton for work and at 85 he's improving with age and experience."
