Full Text

C. M. Clark, who returned yesterday from the coal fields strip, informs us that Dr. William B. Phillips, Ph. D., of Pittsburg, Pa., who represents parties who have an option on 22,000 acres of land in the strip, has a force of men repairing and building a road from San Carlos, which is now about completed, and the drilling machinery which has been at San Carlos for some time, will be moved to the strip within a day or two and drilling begun. It is the intention to thoroughly prospect the coal lands on the strip, to demonstrate the extent and value of the coal veins. After a cursory examination of the San Carlos coal fields Dr. Phillips is very favorably impressed with the possibilities of developing extensive veins, and stated that the coal is of the right kind for coking. The result of the exploration of these coal lands will be awaited with great interest, as should they prove as important as is now anticipated, the result will be to wonderfully stimulate the mining industry of southern Arizona. -- Bisbee.
