Full Text

Here, and There,

No better evidence of the tolerant spirit of the Southern people exists than the fact that even in this city a half a dozen Northern Radicals, of the worst negroized and ultra stripe, are members of the police patrol force, and are paid and supported by Democratic citizens. In an up-country Radical city a Democrat would stand a poor chance for a situation as policeman; and it will be remembered that just after the war, when the infamous Metropolitan Police ruled and tyrannized over our city, no Democrats or men who had not a clear Radical record could secure such a situation here.
