Mr. Weller—Abolition.

Mr. Weller, member of Congress, from the Butler District, in a letter to the editors of the Cincinnati Gazette says, "I have uniformly voted against the reception of such papers, [Abolition petition] and until I am satisfied that a different course would more speedily effect the object I have in view, to wit: the prostration of the abolition cause, I do not expect to change my course;" and adds, "I am the uncompromising enemy of the abolitionists."

This letter is dated Oct. 25th, and is no doubt intended, as a reciprocal compliment to those abolitionists in the district, who aided him in procuring a seat in Congress by running a third candidate. How kind of Mr. Weller, now the election is over, to speak thus of a party who rendered him such signal service! But we must do Mr. Weller full justice in this matter. In the same letter he says he will vote against the annexation of Texas to the U. S.—On this point he is equally explicit as on the subject of Abolition petitions. There is no dodging—he speaks plain and cannot be misunderstood.

If the constituents of Mr. Weller are disappointed in his opinions, now expressed, on the right of petition—particularly his abolition friends—they can proudly point to his opposition to the annexation of Texas, the Tariff, U. S. Bank and the restriction of the Veto Power! He goes the full length for the Kingly veto, and giving the British manufacturer power to inundate our country with his fabrics, though our own workmen should starve.—[Dayton Journal.
