Legion Unit's Election Is Billed Next Month Following Selections Friday Night.
Nominations for new officers were begun by members of the local American Legion post when they met at their new home on South Main street Friday night, and a full report on the Fourth of July celebration, which was under the direction of the Legion, was given.
O. P. Martin, general chairman of the celebration committee, was given a vote of thanks for the way he handled the event, and all others who participated in McAllen's celebration were commended.
Officers are to be elected Aug. 14, and nominations will be open prior to that date. Those nominated Friday night were O. P. Martin and Hans Rothe for commander; George Chapapas and Bob Jolly vice commander; Vic Lawson adjutant; Frank Greenwald, sergeant-at-arms; Harry Merts, chaplain; O. K. Rumble, historian; and Harley Jackson, service officer.
J. F. Palmer, McAllen druggist, returned by letter a $10 bond, which he had purchased from the Legion post to aid the building fund. The bond was cancelled, and Palmer told Legion officials he was glad to contribute this sum to the organization.
