Rev. Roy Olson of St. Cloud Intones Challenge to Older Generation
A challenge to parents from "Youth at the Crossroads" was intoned Monday by Rev. Roy Olson, former chaplain of the St. Cloud reformatory and now a representative of the Minnesota Parent-Teachers congress, at the regular luncheon meeting of the local Lions club.
Character building in the home was stressed by Reverend Olson as the solution to the problem of taking the great burden of responsibility from the shoulders of the educators upon whom now depends much of the moral education.
Likening youth's quest for a solution to the "whys" and "wherefores" of present conditions to that of a bewildered spectator at A Century of Progress exposition, the clergyman said that youth is looking to the older generation for something constructive which will take the country out of the financial and industrial depression. Reverend Olson was introduced by William Payne, principal of the local high school.
Musical entertainment was furnished by the Three Melodeers of Mandan, who played "Home, Home on the Range," a college melody and "There's a Home in Wyoming." Members of the trio are Tony Dechant William Christianson and John Kolpoff.
Guests of the club were Frank Milhollan, Rev. Opie S. Rindahl of Bismarck and Judge G, Grimson of Rugby. Herman Brocopp won the attendance prize.
