Another Victim to the Mysterious Servant Girl Murders and Outrages.
Blood Hounds Placed Upon the Murderer's Trail and He is Captured—Strong Threats of Lynching.
Special to the Gazette.
Austin, Tex., Aug. 30.—This morning about 4 o'clock Mr. V. O. Weed, a prominent liveryman, heard groans issuing from a small house occupied by his servants. He got up to ascertain the cause and going to the room asked what was the matter. The cook, a colored woman, aged about forty, replied SHE WAS BADLY HURT but knew nothing of how or when it occurred. Mr. Weed made an examination and found that she had been dangerously wounded in the temple with some small instrument. He asked the woman where her daughter, aged 12, was, but could get nothing satisfactory from her, she being weak from loss of blood. He then made a search for the child, and in a stable near his dwelling found her, She had been MOST BRUTALLY OUTRAGED then murdered by having the same Instrument used on her mother thrust into her brain.
Detectives were at once notified and a couple of blood hounds were carried to the premises and were soon on a trail which was followed to a livery stable about half a mile away. Here the dogs INDICATED THE MAN they had followed, who was concealed in the loft, and a search being made a negro man, driver of one of the city water carts, was found hidden away. He was carried to the scene of the murder and his foot exactly fitted the track left in the yard. He was then lodged in the city calaboose, but THREATS OF LYNCHING him being freely indulged in, he was placed in jail.
This is the fifth servant girl mysteriously murdered in this city during the past four months.
