1958 BASEBALL SCHEDULE FOR MANTEO SCHOOL LISTED
Although baseball practice officially began on Monday March 10, the Manteo high school baseball team has had little opportunity to practice due to cold and wet weather. Daily workouts are being held in the gym however, and Coach A. O. Ayers intends to move to the field as soon as weather permits.
With the recent organization of the Tidewater Athletic Conference, two new teams will be listed on the local team's schedule this spring. They are Columbia and Sunbury. Opening game of their ten-game season for the Redskins will be April 3 against Moyock.
As in basketball, the eight teams will be divided into two divisions. The eastern group will include Camden, Griggs, Manteo and Moyock; the western will be Central, Columbia, Sunbury and Weeksville.
The first home game for Manteo will be April 15 against Columbia.
Following is this year's schedule: Thursday, April 3, Manteo at Moyock; Tuesday, April 8, Manteo at Sunbury; Friday, April 11, Manteo at Camden; Tuesday, April 15, Columbia at Manteo; Friday, April 18, at Griggs; Tuesday, April 22, Moyock at Manteo; Friday, April 25, Camden at Manteo; Tuesday, April 29, Griggs at Manteo; Friday, May 2, at Weeksville; Tuesday, May 6, Central at Manteo.
All games are scheduled to be played at 3:30 in the afternoon, unless another hour or date is set up by rival coaches. It is also possible that several non-conference games will be played.
