Nome School Will
Receive $257,159
In State Aid

JUNEAU (P) -- The State Department of Education today announced the allocation of $11,103,590 in state aid to Alaska's 30 organized school districts.

The Anchorage School District will receive the largest share under the allocations announced today, $4,689,490.20. The smallest share, $16,766.42, will go to the Pelican School District.

The 1962 legislature provided $11,272,590 for the support of schools within organized school districts.

The Department of Education set $169,000 aside as a reserve for emergency financial assistance and budget amendments, leaving $11,103,590 available for organized school district support.

Final budgets for the 1962-1963 school year, submitted by the organized districts last January, amounted to $11,555,310.83.

The State Department of Education cut this total figure to $11,287,520.06 in its review of the final district budgets.

With only $11,103,590 available, each district was allocated 98.37 per cent of its approved budget.

State Education Commissioner Dr. Theo J. Norby said monthly payments of 95 per cent of the state aid each district is to receive will start Aug. 1 and continue.

The remaining 5 per cent of state aid due each district will be withheld pending a final accounting of school district expenditures in the fall of 1963.

"I am absolutely confident there will be a balance in the fund after the final accounting for the 1962-1963 school year and that each district will receive every cent of state aid to which it is entitled," Norby said.

The Nome School submitted a budget of $280,755.42 of which $261,456 was approved by the State Dept. of Education; and its pro-rated share of the $11 million amounts to $257,159.14.
