Message Sent to General MacArthur Expresses Confidence in His Leadership; War Department Reports Air Raids.

Washington, March 23.--(AP)

The War department announced today American-Filipino troops in the Philippines had assured General Douglas MacArthur in a message that they would continue their defense of the islands with the same zeal and courage that they showed under MacArthur's personal command.

A communique said that the messages dispatched to MacArthur in Australia expressed confidence that under his leadership the United Nations forces in the Pacific the aggressor would be defeated.
