District M. P. Church:
The district conference of the 2nd sub-district of the Arkansas Annual Conference of the M. P Church met at Bethlehem church in Claiborne parish, La. July 15-18, 1887.
W. D. Bond, chairman presiding
W. I. Byrd, of Brister church was elected secretary.
Each church composing the district was represented except. Summerfield W. F. Wingfield being with us represented the interest of Summerfield circuit, considerable interest was manifest in the local and general welfare of the church in the following resolutions: A resolution on foreign missions was adopted requiring each pastor to collect from their several charges ten cents per member to meet the claims made on the Ark., conference by the foreign mission board. A resolution was adopted urging a strenuous execution of the law of finance as spread upon the journal of the Ark. Conference.
The propriety of a home mission enterprise was discussed and a resolution adopted, recommending each pastor to lay this claim before the people collecting ten cents or more per member to be brought to the next annual conference.
The subject of temperance in the church was warmly discussed and a resolution was adopted urging the church to use every possible means to encourage the temperance cause.
A resolution on church literature was adopted recommending pastors to arduously press the importance of the church patronizing the institution, Not being satisfied with anything short of finding not less than at least one of the church organs in every family in the church and the Sabbath school literature in every Sabbath school with the dispatch of other business of importance, the conference closed its session, its members feeling glad that they had the privilege of meeting with the kind and generous people that so kindly received and bountifully entertained the conference.
We stayed over for the Sabbath. and enjoyed a Sabbath services. the congregation showing the appreciation of their pastor by contributing to him in obedience to a call of their esteemed pastor, J. J. Bond the sum of $16.20,
