From the Federal Gazette.
While our government appeared to sacrifice the honor and interest of the country to aid Bonaparte in his schemes for the destruction of England; nothing was heard from a certain description of democratic editors (the most of them useless impostors) but exhortations to the people to uphold the dignity of their rulers and cheerfully to submit to their measures, as the wisest that could possibly be adopted. If any were heard to murmur against the proceedings of government or to predict consequences that have since followed, these flaming democrats held them up as tories, justly deserving the gallows. But being cut short in their expectations of seeing the United States involved in war with England, by government being in a manner kicked into an official publication of the injuries and insults heaped on us by France; now those same brawlers have grown quite outrageous; and forgetting all their former PATRIOTIC exhortations, they join with Bonaparte's secretary in representing our legislators as a set of the most despicable wretches in existence. The object that these creatures have in view, can now no longer be mistaken; it must appear as plain as the unclouded sun at noon, to all whom reason can convince, that to involve our country in war with England, has been and still is the end and aim of all their actions. Peace with England is as horrible to them, as the sight of water to an animal under the tortures of hydrophobia. Dash water at them, and let them froth and rave! They must be disappointed.
