Full Text

The following was wrote by a lad of 12 years of age

On the death of his late majesty King GEORGE the Second, who died October 25th, 1760.

The direful sound does pierce my ear.

The news makes heaven and earth rebound,

So sad and mournful is the sound,

That GEORGE the Second lives no more.

No more reigns monarch of the shore:

GEORGE the generous, and the just,

The wise, the learned, and the great:

GEORGE our protector, patriot, friend,

Did us from enemies defend.

O let his memory ever blest:

In Briton's hearts forever rest.

Reign him then to heaven alone,

From thence he came, lo! there he's gone.
