Full Text

We learn from Washington, that the Bankrupt Bill amended, will probably pass, but be limited to two years—That it is not likely any new tax or excise of any kind, will be laid, as the established revenue is reviving, and will, after the present year, be amply sufficient—That an auction duty, moderate in its character, may pass; and the Tariff will probably be so modified as to be more productive of revenue, without however, being in the aggregate augmented. The principal object in revising it, will be to convert ad valorem into specific articles.

The Bankrupt Bill, if amended, will probably pass but be limited to two years. No new tax or excise is likely, as revenue is reviving and will be sufficient after the present year. A moderate auction duty may pass, and the Tariff will be modified to increase revenue without overall augmentation, mainly by converting ad valorem to specific duties.
