Senatorial and Judicial Election.

On Friday and Saturday last, the Legislature elected a Senator to fill the vacancy which will take place in the senatorial delegation from this State on the fourth of March next; and also, three Judges of the Supreme Court. They all hold their offices for the term of six years.

Mr. Harlan, recently of Johnson county, was elected United States Senator; and George G. Wright, of Van Buren, Chief Justice, and William G. Woodward, of Muscatine; and N. W. Isbell, of Muscatine were chosen Associates.

Of the character and qualifications of Mr. Harlan, it is needless for us to speak. He has twice been before the people as a candidate for the office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, and addressed large assemblies in most if not all the thickly settled portions of the State.

The large vote he received at both elections attest the high estimation entertained by the people of his character and qualifications.

His subsequent nomination for the office of Governor, and his present election—both of which were unsought by him—betoken that the confidence heretofore reposed in him is still undiminished.

Mr. Wright, who has been elected Chief Justice, is acknowledged by all to be one of the best lawyers in the State, and will fill the station to which he has been called, with honor to himself and the State.

Messrs. Woodward and Isbell are gentlemen who are both distinguished for their legal abilities, and will, in their official station, demonstrate that the confidence reposed in them is not misplaced.

Of one thing we are certain, that we will now have a Supreme Bench, who will not let business slumber in their hands for want of their own labor, for they are all men noted for their industry, energy and perseverance.—Tri-Weekly Republican.
