Over $65,000 Is Paid To City on 1941 Levies
Over $65,000 in 1941, or current, taxes were collected by the city of McAllen during the month of October, setting a new high for that month, Assistant Tax Collector J. R. Glasscock announced Saturday.
All of the city taxpayers who paid their assessments during October received a three per cent discount, one reason for the unprecedented payment, according to city officials.
The discount in November is two per cent and in December it will be one percent, there will be no reduction in January and the taxes will become delinquent on February 1.
Glasscock said the exact total on the October collections had not yet been determined, although figures checked so far had revealed the amount will be in excess of $65,000.
