SEATTLE, Dec. 16. (U.P.)—The McCormick Steel freighter Skagway late today was high on the rocks at Fuca's point pillar, near Cape Flattery, with a fire reported raging in her hold, according to coast guard advices.
It struck the rocks near Tatoosh early today and grounded. Captain Strandquist of Los Angeles was the last man to leave the stricken ship.
Twenty-six members of the crew had been removed earlier in the day. The crew abandoned the ship when a series of explosions made their position dangerous. When the captain finally left the ship waves breaking over the deck and striking the steel plating created steam which made it impossible for him to remain aboard.
