St. Augustine College Plans 93rd Anniversary
St. Augustine's College will celebrate its 93rd Anniversary on January 15th, 16th and 17th. Dr. James A. Boyer, president has announced that two prominent alumni will be the Banquet and Founders' Day speakers.
On Friday night, January 15th. the St. Augustine's Players under the direction of Carl Smith. will present three, one act plays in Taylor Hall. On Saturday, January 16th, the alumni workshop will be held in the Penick Amphitheater, with Dr. H. I. Fontellio-Nanton as consultant.
The Founder's Day Banquet will be held in the Cheshire Building with Mr. James W. Thornton of Mt. Vernon, New York as speaker.
Dr. Thornton attended normal school at St. Augustine's and received the degree in dentistry at Howard University, post graduate work in Public Health was done at Columbia University. Dr. Thornton has served with the U. S. Public Health Service and since 1925 has carried on a practice in Mt. Vernon.
On Sunday, January 17th Dr. M. Moran Weston, rector of St. Philip's Church in New York City, will give the Founders' Day address in the college chapel. The Rev. Mr. Weston graduated from junior college, St. Augustine's, in 1928. He holds an A.B. degree from Columbia University and a B.D. degree from Union Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from Columbia.
One of the highlights of the program will be the announcing of the scholarship and Improvement Fund Drive results. A goal of $25,000 has been set to be raised by the alumni and friends of the college.
