Canvassers on a Tantrum.
Waterville has her full quota of canvassers during each year. Some of them are good, some bad and some of them are indifferent. Two of the bad ones landed here the other day and, perhaps it was because their business had been good in other towns and they had some spare cash, that they set about having a good time, painting the city a vermillion hue and making their own ordinances.
They were quartered at a respectable boarding house on East Front street, but that did not seem to make much of difference with them. Monday morning they got to be too rolly and the city marshal went down to see what they proposed for the next number on the programme. The result of his visit was the landing of both men in the police station.
About this time City Marshal Morse of Augusta, dropped into town and requested an interview with one of them, who, the officer said, had departed from the Capital city forgetting to return to its owner, a ring belonging to a young lady of that city. Marshal Morse got the ring. The two men were fined and costs each, but decided to take 20 days instead of paying. They were accommodated.
