Important News from Hayti.

The brig Laurilla, which left Cape Haytien on the 22d inst. and reaching Boston on the evening of the 9th, brings important intelligence from that island.

Santana had failed in his expedition against St. Domingo City, although he had quite a large force. He retreated towards Samana, which place he captured, after great slaughter, and entirely destroyed.

Captain Lavender also states that President Baez, with assistance from Curacoa, had sent a fleet of twenty sail, under the command of an American officer, to blockade Port au Platte, and a report reached Cape Haytien on the 22d ult, that that place had been captured and burnt.

It was also reported at Cape Haytien, when Captain Lavender left, that two men-of-war had been sent to Navassa Island, about sixty miles west of St. Domingo, which has been the resort for some time by several Americans, for the purpose of taking possession, in the name of the Haytien Government, and expelling the Americans. This had caused great excitement at St. Domingo City.

American vessels have been in the habit of loading guano at this last-named island for some years past. Rumors have been current for some time that the Haytien Government intended to lay claim to it, as it now appears they have done.

A St. Thomas paper of the 15th May states that at St. Domingo, Baez's vessels had captured three schooners, one of them British—the Victoria—off Turk's Island. The latter was subsequently retaken by a British Steamer.

The British Consul had taken refuge on the same steamer.
