CONSTANTINOPLE, August 17.

Several Russian Ships of the Line are cruising constantly off the Islands Tenedos and Imbro; the rest of their Fleet is sailed towards the Morea. The Fate of the Captain Bashaw, who was dismissed, is unknown; and his Successor is not yet arrived here. A few Days ago there was an Alarm in the Quarter of Cassim Pacha, on Account of some Arms being discovered in the Shops of some Greeks, who have been committed to Prison; and Orders have been since given that none of them have Arms in their Houses. The Guards are doubled, and ordered to patrol Day and Night. The Accounts of the ill Success of our Troops have been hushed as much as possible by the Court, but those who have escaped from the Hands of the Enemy assure us that the Enemy are not only Masters of the Danube, but of all the Towns which the Turks have abandoned, which gives great Uneasiness to the Sultan and his Ministers, who are very apprehensive of a Revolt; which would have happened before this if the Garrison of the Seraglio had not timely opposed the Enterprises of the Mariners, which were carried on by some discontented Subjects. The Sultan, in Order to quiet the Inhabitants of this City, went on the 22d Instant to the Divan, where he declared that his Grand Vizier had advised him that his Army had had an Engagement with the Enemy, in which some Hundreds were killed on both Sides.
