Full Text

The COMPLAINTS of the several Counties against the Valuation.

Suffolk exclaims against her Portion,
Essex joins with great Devotion;
Poor Middlesex is not behind,
And Worcester cries, alas, unkind:
Hampshire is roused as from a Dream.
And sings Oppression for her Theme;
Berkshire is roused like a TRITON,
Bristol sounds like a thundering Lyon:
Lincoln cast down, and quite dejected,
York is furious and much affected,
Sorrow caught hold of Cumberland,
Plymouth is struck beneath the Sand:
Barnstable in Sorrow is dumb with Grief,
Nantucket sues for some Relief:
Dukes-County now brings up the Rear,
O'ercome with Grief, bequeaths a Tear.
