TAMPA, Fla.—NAACP leaders in Florida have called upon Dan McCarty, newly inaugurated governor of the state, to "consider the hiring of qualified Negroes to fill various offices and positions left open by the present change in administration. In a letter addressed to the governor, the NAACP cites the long exclusion of Negroes from administrative positions in the state government and urges him "to reverse this discriminatory practice and to set a precedent for other governors to follow in the future."
