MAN'S INGRATITUDE.

A Household, Rid of Rats by a Pole-cat, Kills the Poor Animal.

The celebrated ratting polecat which was described in a previous issue of the Times as having driven every mouse and rat away from Foster's above Hailey, has received his quietus. Unappreciative ranchmen could not tolerate the odor, and what was at first hailed as a blessing in ridding the rat-infested premises became, after their extermination, a nuisance less tolerable. The remedy was voted worse than the complaint, and last week the polecat was driven out. A number of men and dogs collected about the house, and with rags and straw combined with sulphur fumes the skunk was forced to leave its home under the house, and no sooner was it in the yard than a combined assault was made, and the former welcome visitor was riddled with bullets, and suffered an ignominious death.
