CHARLESTON, S. C. Aug. 29.

Extract of a letter from Statesburg, Aug. 23.

"The ancient custom of boxing is, by a certain class of people, still practiced in this part of the country.—

Two young men, of the names of Sweetman and Dunn, having been for some time at variance, at length agreed to settle their difference at fisticuffs. They met, and after a severe contest of ten minutes, the victory terminated in favor of Sweetman. The champion, however, did not long live to triumph in his victory, for in less than an hour he laid down and expired. Dunn has since been committed to prison."
