The quarrel is said to have been occasioned by the Portuguese Minister of Police having insisted on searching some baggage belonging to the French Minister, who remonstrated to the Court of Portugal, and even insisted on the dismissal of the Minister of Police, which being refused, he immediately quitted Lisbon for Paris.

In consequence of a misunderstanding between French and Portuguese Governments, Gen. Lannes, French minister, quitted Lisbon hastily on the morning of the 10th instant after the Portuguese Minister of Police insisted on searching his baggage. Lannes remonstrated to the Court of Portugal and demanded the Police Minister's dismissal, which was refused.
