War Between China and England.—A fierce war has broken out between England and China. It was caused by the Chinese authorities boarding an English vessel which carried the English flag, and seizing some twelve of the crew—three of whom they beheaded. The men taken were Chinese. But were in the employ of the English.

The English Admiral immediately demanded of the Governor General at Canton the restoration of the men taken into custody, and an apology for this wanton invasion of existing treaty regulations. The Governor General refused to comply, and the whole British fleet was brought to bear on Canton, which was entered and the Governor's Palace taken possession of.

The Chinese High Commissioner offered thirty dollars for every head of an Englishman. The Chinese thereupon beheaded several Americans and stuck their heads on the walls; this so exasperated the Americans that they are making common cause with the English.—Findlay Com.
