Rev. William Lawton of 911 Sandford street, swore out a warrant Monday night about ten o'clock for Eddie Washington and Robert Coursey charging them with assault and battery.
The trouble started Sunday morning at Sunday school when William Lawton, Jr., age 17, lost his overcoat and his father, the Rev. Lawton, accused some of the boys in the Sunday School class of stealing the coat.
Monday evening four of the boys, Andy Toomes, George Furnace, Eddie Washington and Robert Coursey, called to see the Lawton family to explain that they did not know anything about William's coat.
Rev. Lawton was still angry, and an argument started between Eddie Washington and the minister. Eddie jabbed Lawton in the jaw. Andy Toomes then jumped in to help Eddie out. Sister Lawton swung a big rocking chair over Andy's head and then the battle was on. It was a free for all fight between the Lawtons and the youngsters. It ended with Washington and Coursey spending a night in jail; Andy Toomes with a hickey on his head and William Lawton is still without his coat.
