CHICAGO, Jan. 3 (ANP)--Dr. J. B. Martin, president of the Negro American league, this week declared that the loss of A.B. (Happy) Chandler as commissioner of major league baseball would be a blow to the progress of Negro baseball.

In a prepared statement, Dr. Martin lauded the fairness of Chandler, who presently is being ousted as commissioner of baseball. Dr. Martin said:

"I am very much disturbed over the difficulty that baseball Commissioner A. B. (Happy) Chandler is having with the major leagues. He has benefited the Negro American league:

"1. In his fairness to the Negro players now in the major leagues.

"2. He has always kept his word with the Negro American league. I refer specifically to a verbal agreement he made with us a few years ago.

"I know that I voice the wishes of all members of the NAL when I say that it will be very gratifying to see these differences ironed out between the commissioner and the major leagues."
