At the morning service, the pastor announced that the entire indebtedness of the church $12,500 was provided for, and over $400.00 surplus-all by subscription, almost entirely among themselves, less than $150.00 being secured outside. If the good Pearl St. people should feel a little jubilant over the fact, none of us would wonder, for their whole history has been a series of brilliant successes, obtained by the blessings of God on their untiring devotion to the interests -temporal and spiritual-of the church. May their future be as successful as their past.
The other episode was at the session of the Sunday School, when the pastor in behalf of the school presented Deacon John Westcott, their former superintendent, who had served them with great devotion and large success for six years-- an order on Deacon C. C. Grosseup for a suit of clothes, as a token of their high esteem and gratitude for his long and useful services. The pastor's remarks were somewhat genial and sportive, and the Deacon's reply was feeling and worthy of himself-all were happy.
