NEW FREIGHT STATION PLANNED TO CORRESPOND WITH "CHICAGO BEAUTIFUL" IDEA

The Pennsylvania Railroad is building the first of its new freight stations in Chicago, with a view to making the structure "beautiful, wonderful, and imposing." In speaking of the building, which is only just begun, A. M. Schloyer, resident vice-president, said: "It will be the best freight station in the country. Standing as it will on the river front, and built in keeping with the 'Chicago Beautiful' plan, the new station will represent substantial progress. Why shouldn't a freight station be as ornamental and pleasing to look upon as the other kind of stations, providing there is no sacrifice of transportation facilities?" The building, it is estimated, will cost $3,500,000. It will be located between Polk and Taylor streets, the railroad and the river. At the present rate of construction, the building will be completed by January 1, 1917.
