We learn that the authorities of our sister city of Hallowell are contemplating making repairs on their City Hall the present season; and a correspondent suggests that now is a favorable time for remodeling and extending the building so as to make it more spacious and convenient for the various public purposes requiring accommodations by the city. The hall and city rooms are not what they should be, and may easily be arranged to meet the demands of the times. As the building requires shingling it would seem that now is the time to make the much needed improvements about the premises generally. The city owns land adjoining the Hall, and with comparatively slight expenditure the building might be rendered an ornament to the city, as well as a source of income by raising the roof and extending the building to the east (by wood or otherwise), spacious accommodations for hall, city rooms, police court room, hearse house, lock-up, &c., might be secured, furnishing all the accommodations that would be required for the present generation. The subject is worthy of consideration at the present time.
