General Jackson passed through this city on Wednesday last, on his way to the state of Tennessee, in high health and spirits. The corporation and the citizens, having heard of his departure from New Orleans, made preparatory arrangements for his reception, but were disappointed in the exhibition of them by the general having arrived sooner than was expected and his sudden departure; having stayed only long enough to take some ordinary refreshment. The same evening some friends rode after him to Washington, where they passed the evening, and were honored with the presence of general Hinds, colonel Jessup, and colonel Overton—all distinguished characters in our last arduous struggle.
