We have before noticed the fact that the Loco Focos were preparing to circulate Tracts on Free Trade.
The work has commenced. They are printed in New York and from thence sent abroad. Large quantities were for a while poured into Connecticut—but as the leaders of the Loco-Foco party there, are just on the eve of election pretended to favor Protection, the Whigs got hold of these Tracts and used them to show the hollowness of the profession of their opponents—They are issued in New York and called "Plebeian Tracts."
The New Haven Palladium relates the following incident :
An Incident. While Michael was at the steamboat wharf this morning, selling "Plebeian Tracts" to make young Whigs of, a Loco Foco passenger got out of the cars and inquired the price of the lot. Michael named the sum, when a bargain was struck for the whole. The purchaser had no sooner got possession of them than he stepped to the side of the wharf and "threw them all into the water" saying, "They are not just the thing to circulate in Connecticut!"—
We had these facts from a person who witnessed the whole proceeding.
