Full Text
KING KALAKAUA, of the Hawaiian Islands, is lying at the point of death in San Francisco, from Bright's disease. In the event of his decease some very pretty political work would be inaugurated. The affairs of the South Sea kingdom are now, for the most part, administered by Americans, and the probabilities are that they would be successful in an attempt to annex the islands to the United States. They would be a valuable acquisition to the Union, without doubt, and their position is such as to render it imperative that no foreign powers gain a foothold upon them.
