WOMAN KEEPS WOLF FROM DOOR BY TELEPHONE

Get a telephone aid. Keep the wolf away from your door,

Such might be a telephone slogan if the story that comes out of Los Angeles is correct. According to this story, the desk sergeant at a local police station, when he answered the telephone, heard a woman cry out, "There's a wolf at my door."

"Lady, you got plenty of company," was the reply of the police sergeant. When the woman pleaded that it was no joke and to please send a policeman at once, the sergeant did so and, sure enough, the three officers who sped to the scene found a big bad wolf camped just outside the door of the home of William Bentley. After some hesitation, they went after the beast and finally overhauled him in an alley, where they pinioned him with a coil of rope.
