Extensions In the Warren District Thought Possible

Possibilities of Extensions of Proven Ores in the District Sought by Several New Companies Which Promise to Carry on Active Development Campaigns and Determine Worth of a Large Acreage Adjoining District.

Arizona-Bisbee Working to the South, Bisbee Copper, Working to the Northeast and Louisiana-Arizona to the West--Many Possibilities Can Be Seen for Each and Failure Is Forcasted by Not a Few of Local Residents.

Lengthening of the lines of copper-productive area in the Warren District, which is now confined to small acreage, in comparison to the world of apparently-mineralized ground, is the topic of conversation in Bisbee at the present time. Another mine, or another group of mines or an extension of the present mines would make of the Warren District second to none in the world and a rival and even larger and more productive than Butte.

Attention was called some months ago in these columns to the geological formation holding in the Warren District. Copper was first found in what is now known as the Queen glory hole, on the side of Copper Queen hill. At that point the metal-bearing ore came, practically speaking, to the surface.

At the Czar unit the ore-bearing ground was between the surface and the four hundred level. As a tipping table might lie, so does the copper bearing stratum of the Warren District. At the Holbrook and Gardner the ore is found at greater depths and in the eastern end of the camp, notably at the Sacramento and the Junction the ore is very deep.

At the Briggs and at the Cole shaft the depth is not so great as at the two mentioned. It is deeper, however, than in the western end of the camp.

NEW COMPANIES.

Far from being a selling argument for new mining promotions now operative in the Warren District this article is meant to merely point out some of the possibilities which are apparent to the most untutored layman, when the given conditions are made known.

Arizona-Bisbee Copper Company has a matter of 1200 acres. This property is situated in what has been familiarly known as the Bisbee-West country. Part of its acreage lies on the Naco flats. Its sidelines are near those of both the White Tail Deer group of the Copper Queen and the Wolverine-Arizona's ground.

Bisbee Copper Mining and Development Company owns what was known, for years in this District, as the Winwood group. This acreage lies, practically speaking, north of the town of Lowell. Its sidelines are also those of the Queen in several places and on the east those of the Denn.

Louisiana-Arizona Copper Company is located on the other side of the District--to the west. The property consists of a large acreage and lies across Tombstone Canyon at a point near the concrete bridge on the state highway. It crosses the divide on the south and includes that ground where the porphyry is imbedded in the lime. It also owns ground on the north side of the Canyon.

These three companies, with the ground owned by the Warren Company on the eastern fringe of the camp, and with the exception of the ground north of the Divided Fault, completely bound the productive area as it is known today.

Why should not this area be expanded?

BISBEE COPPER.

Diamond Drill work is now being prosecuted on the property of the Bisbee Copper Mining and Development Company. It is said that the hole is now down a matter of 500 feet.

So far as can be learned no ore has been cut. If the ore bodies of the Sacramento ground and that of the Junction ground continue north, the operators of the Bisbee Copper can not expect to cut their ore short of 1400 or 1500 feet. Deep development will undoubtedly be necessary if any ore is encountered on this property. Judging from many indications the property has good chance of success.

ARIZONA-BISBEE.

Arizona-Bisbee Copper Company, ably financed from all appearances, and with a large acreage, promises to prove or disprove the oft-held theory that copper ore could be found south and west of the Wolverine. At the present time the greatest sign for good in that particular locality is the showing in the White Tail Deer mine of the Copper Queen Company.

In this property considerable ore of an excellent grade has been developed and much more should be uncovered by further work. It proves, practically, the territory between the White Tail Deer and the Cole shaft of the C. & A. Company, which lies on the other side of the hog-back from the White Tail. West of the White Tail, leasers on the Broken Promise claim, located on Wolverine ground, have gone down several hundred feet and have found ore.

The big question is whether or not this continues in a westerly direction to the ground of the Arizona-Bisbee. There have been geologists who declare that ore can be found there. It may lay very deep but the management of the A. B. C., apparently, is preparing for a thoroughgoing development campaign. On that side of the District the ore has not been so deep as it has been found at the Sacramento and Junction. It may be that the same is the case on Arizona-Bisbee ground.

Certainly those interested in the latter company hope so. In any event, however, they promise to carry on extensive work and a road is now being built from Don Luis to the property, preparatory to actual operations.

ON THE WESTERN SIDE.

Louisiana-Arizona lies to the west of the camp. Of surface indications there are hundreds. The same lime capping that prevails in the District, properly is to be found. On a vein which outcrops and which can be traced from the bottom of the canyon until it is buried in the porphyry, some prospect work was done last spring. Lead-silver ore of excellent grade was mined. Copper indications were good and it is thought by many that if the vein is mined and depth sought that copper ore will be uncovered.
