Garfield Tomlin was struck with a piece of scantling by an unknown man on First avenue south at 10 o'clock last night, receiving a gash on the forehead which required ten stitches to close. Tomlin does not know who his assailant was, but Receiver S. Friedenthal believes that it was a man who is designated below Yesler way as the "Crazy Man" on account of his peculiar actions of late. Tomlin states that he was walking quietly along the street near the coal bunkers when he was assaulted. Dr. Carroll dressed his wounds at police headquarters.
