The plaque to be erected at the new LHS gymnasium in honor of "Block" Smith, immortal LHS athletic coach, will not arrive in time from the manufacturer to be erected and unveiled before the current school term ends.
This notification came last week from the manufacturer.
The plaque was ordered after required contributions to the "Block Smith Plaque Fund Drive" had been received from LHS alumni and friends.
The Plaque Fund committee is now withholding a decision on whether to have the plaque erected when it does arrive, or wait until next Fall when school opens again. The new gym is named "Block Smith Memorial Gymnasium" in tribute to the revered "Block" Smith, LHS coach-teacher 1925 - '37.
