Full Text
Pulling The Wrong Horse's Tail. It has been said upon high authority, that 'a rose by any other name would smell as sweet,' but whether there is any special virtue in a name as applied to different samples of horse hair, is another question. At the funeral procession in N. York on Tuesday, an old white horse, whose mane and tail had been badly plucked, appeared as the representative of 'Old Whitey.' It appears that he was suspected to be the veritable horse hero. His stable was visited by hundreds, and he was most incontinently plucked of his flowing honors. The daw, it is said, once tried to show off in peacock's feathers; but this exploit to conceal the donkey by aid of horse hair, is quite as original, though of more doubtful success.
