A bill to double the salaries of
Monroe County
Commissioners
from $150 to $300 a month and
to provide expenses for them on
official business within and without
the county will be introduced
in the state legislature by State
Representative B. C. Papy, it was
learned today.
The bill signed by County Legal
Advisor Paul Sawyer recognizes
the growing volume of work of
the Commissioners and provides
for their many inspection trips
up and down the county, to and
from meetings, and up and down
the state.
The bill will designate the fund
out of which increased salaries
will be paid. It also authorizes
additional compensation for mileage
actually traveled within
Monroe County while attending to
the business of the county and
including mileage for traveling
to and from the Courthouse to
attend meetings of the board.
The latter provision particularly
affects Commissioner Harry
Harris who must come down
from the Upper Keys not only for
the two regular meetings of the
Commission each month, but for
special meetings.
The bill further authorizes expenses
for travel and other items
incurred in attending to the business
of the county, outside the
county limits.
