JUDGE HUMPHREYS MAY ENTER RACE

His Entry Will Make Four Who Seek Position in the Fayetteville District.

Fayetteville, Aug. 23.--The coming election promises to be one of the hottest this section of Arkansas has ever seen. At the present time the race for congress is the chief topic of conversation. Renewed interest has been aroused by the report that Judge T. H. Humphreys would enter the race. Mr. Humphreys has been chancellor of this district for many years and is well known in political circles all over Arkansas. Following is Judge Humphreys' statement:

"To the Democratic Voters of the Third Congressional District:

"Solicitations to make the race for congress have become so numerous and pressing that I deem it my duty to acquaint you with my immediate plans by public statement.

"For many months I have turned a deaf ear to the call of my friends for reasons satisfactory to myself. However, in deference to the sentiment favoring my candidacy, I have concluded to discuss the matter with my friends throughout the district, and if they think this is the appropriate and opportune time for me to make the race, I will announce my candidacy on or about October 1. I invite a full and frank statement from my friends.

"Very truly,

"T. H. HUMPHREYS."

This will make four candidates in the race for congress, Judge J. N. Tillman, former president of the University of Arkansas, and W. L. Stuckey, both of Washington county and Claude A. Fuller of Carroll county, and at present prosecuting attorney for this district, Judge Rogers having recently withdrawn from the race as a result of an elimination election which was held in this city.
